From the Curate – Sept 2017

It’s hard to believe that it’s September already. As the dark nights start to draw in and the all too infrequent sunny days begin with cold and foggy mornings, we are all reminded that Autumn is on the way. It’s a time of new beginnings as the summer holidays end and parents prepare to wave goodbye to little ones starting school, and not so little ones starting university or college. Each and every new beginning brings the inevitable doubts and worries- will they have everything they need? Will they make new friends; do well in their studies; get on with their classmates? What will I do with myself once they have left the house?

Whilst we cannot guarantee to smooth out every bump in our children’s lives, our Christian faith does give us a firm foundation to start from. We can pray about our doubts and worries; and theirs! We can share our concerns with our fellow disciples and find love and support. We can reassure those we love that they are never alone, and as they enter the unknown God is always with them.

As we grow in faith, we want to share the love of God with those around us, and one of the best ways we can do this is through noticing those in need and reaching out to them in loving service and genuine compassion, using our gifts and the gifts of those around us for the benefit of our community.

As the new school year begins I’m delighted to announce a new Baby and Toddler Group in Alrewas! All Saints Church and the Methodist Church are starting the Little Fishes Baby and Toddler Group on Wednesday 13th September. It’ll be run at the Methodist Church on Post Office Road, every Wednesday morning, 9:15-11:15 during term time. All parents/carers and their little ones are very welcome. It will be a safe space for Mum’s, Dad’s and all those caring for babies and toddlers to find friendship, support and a listening ear. Looking after little ones can be lonely, and it can be hard, we want to offer a place where people can find encouragement and mutual support. Please come along or pass this on to someone else you think might benefit. Contact Helen Cocks on 07515 940060 to find out more about the group and to book your first free session.

With every blessing
